In Winter & Summer we enter 60 day retreat seasons at the Detroit Zen Center. Current or new students are invited to join our resident monks in their lifestyle through weekend retreats, inspired by Zen monastic culture. It is a rare opportunity for personal study with our Teacher Hwalson Sunim.

About the Event
OVERVIEW: In January & February we enter the 60 day winter retreat season at the Detroit Zen Center.
Current or new students are invited to join our resident monks in their way of life, inspired by Zen monastic culture, through weekend retreats. Retreats are also a rare opportunity for personal study with our 83 year old Teacher, Hwalson Sunim.
DETAILS: Retreats begin with a tea & meeting at 6pm on Friday, and end Sunday at 1pm with closing tea. The daily schedule includes AM & PM sitting meditation, private meetings & instruction with the Teacher, whole food meals, talks, light manual projects, and rest: A lifestyle inspired by monastic roots, adapted that even beginners can join.
Living as a lay monastic for a few days, we build strength and stability through spiritual practice, healthy routine, fellowship & discipline, under the guidance of an elder Zen teacher. The schedule ofte…
